When comparing us to IRC don't forget that we have online history storage and search, hosted file sharing, and a client that's simple enough for anyone to use. Tech-savvy companies can certainly setup their own IRC server with a logging bot and teach their employees how to "/join #company", but we'd argue that HipChat provides a better experience.
